Prehabilitation
Prehabilitation
Prehabilitation, although a relatively new term, is gaining increasing importance in medicine. It is a comprehensive process of preparing a patient for surgery or long-term treatment, such as oncology. The main goal of prehabilitation is to bring the patient to an optimal state of health that will allow him or her to go through the procedure smoothly, minimize the risk of complications and speed up recovery.

Oncology prehabilitation - the key to a better course of treatment
Oncology prehabilitation is a special form of patient preparation before cancer treatment, especially before surgery or chemotherapy. It includes, among other things, appropriate diet, exercise and psychological support, which can significantly improve the patient's health before treatment. This type of rehabilitation in Poznan is aimed not only at improving physical fitness, but also at strengthening the body to fight the disease, minimizing the risk of complications and shortening recovery time.
Pre-operative rehabilitation - supporting the body at every stage
Preoperative rehabilitation is especially important for patients preparing for musculoskeletal surgeries, such as hip replacement. Adequate preoperative hip rehabilitation helps strengthen the muscles around the joint, improve its range of motion and minimize the risk of postoperative complications. With physiotherapy, patients are better able to cope with the treatment process, returning to full function faster after surgery.
When it comes to orthopedic conditions, Pre-operative rehabilitation is particularly important for people with joint problems in which there is damage to the articular cartilage. Properly selected therapy not only helps prepare the joint for surgery, but also reduces pain and improves the functionality of the joint before surgery.
Prehabilitation is based on 4 elements:

Elimination of addictions
First of all, smoking.Smoking is not only a risk factor for many serious diseases, including cancer, but also significantly increases the risk of postoperative complications such as pneumonia, surgical wound infection and even death.

Nutritional preparation
Surgery in patients with severe malnutrition significantly increases the risk of complications, especially in oncology patients. While adequate nutritional preparation is crucial for these groups, its importance goes further. So-called immunomodulatory nutrition can benefit a wider range of patients, supporting their bodies before surgery and reducing the risk of complications.

Appropriate exercises
Despite the often short time between diagnosis and surgery, simple exercises can be implemented to help patients breathe, get out of bed after surgery, or control their cough reflex. Even short exercise sessions promote anabolic processes, helping to regain lost weight and accelerate healing. Exercise is especially important in obese patients preparing ?for elective procedures such as hip replacement, hernia surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, or bariatric surgery.

Psychological support
Psychological support plays a key role in the prehabilitation process, especially in oncology patients. It helps not only to better understand the treatment, but most importantly to reduce anxiety and stress, which often accompany surgery and oncology treatment. Anxiety and stress negatively affect the patient's well-being and quality of life, but also significantly reduce the effectiveness of treatment, ?including oncological treatment.
Preoperative rehabilitation is the preparation of the body for surgery through appropriate exercises and physiotherapy treatments. It is especially recommended for patients before musculoskeletal surgery.
